Helene Marcus
Helene Marcus, who founded HMD Healthcare Design in 1980, brings a unique perspective to her firm’s design projects because of her personal involvement in the medical field. A Long Island native, Helene earned a Master’s degree in Speech and Hearing Pathology and worked as a clinician. She then went on to attend Parsons School of Design and the
New York Institute of Technology School of
Architecture and Design, ultimately combining her interest in clinical work with her love of creating innovative interior spaces. Helene explains that her experience working with patients provided her with invaluable insight “enabling me to understand the specific needs of the elderly and disabled.”
A multi-talented designer, Helene is recognized for her distinctive signature style that expertly balances contemporary furnishings with traditional accents to make each facility as attractive, comfortable and welcoming as possible.
In addition to principal designer, Helene Marcus, the firm is composed of eight other designers including three associates: Lucia Aleixo, formerly a senior designer at Perkins and Eastman of Manhattan; Lucy Kandora, formerly with Neville Lewis Associates and Daroff Design of Philadelphia; and Christine Cole, formerly with Gensler Associates in Manhattan.
With over thirty years of experience designing health care facilities, HMD Healthcare Design is well known for offering clients a full-service firm addressing the needs of a diversity of health care providers. During these 3 decades, HMD has developed, created, and improved medical and dental offices, MRI facilities, dialysis units, nursing homes, hospice units, and cardiac and rehabilitation centers throughout the New York-New Jersey metropolitan area. |
